Donaco Resumes Gaming Operations In Star Vegas

Australian-listed casino operator Donaco International said casino operations at its Star Vegas Club and Casino (file photo) in Poipet, on the Cambodia-Thailand border, “will resume from June 18, 2022.”

“Donaco confirms that the Cambodian government and relevant local authorities have lifted the temporary closure of casino operations in Bantei Minchi province, where Star Vegas is located,” the casino company said in a filing on Friday.

“Star Vegas’ operations will initially resume on a limited scale, and Donaco is positioned to progress gradually towards full operational capacity in the coming months,” it added.

The property was a major source of revenue for the company before the COVID-19 pandemic, but it has been closed for more than two years.

In Friday’s announcement, Donaco said Star Vegas’ “gradual increase to its overall operations” would allow the company to “continue the careful cost control strategy it has implemented throughout its business” in response to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The filing included prepared remarks from Fornath Amatavivadana, Donaco’s non-executive chairman, which the company said would see the resumption of Star Vegas and “return to full-fledged operations soon.”

“The Cambodian border with Thailand has also reopened, which is where the majority of Star Vegas customers have traditionally come from,” he added

The executive said Donaco will “focus on careful control over corporate and operating costs,” adding that “operations will take some time to get back to where they were.”
